Mayor Fenty Visits the Ballpark
June 22, 2007 was an exciting day for the hard working men and women at the new D. C. Ballpark. The workers, composed primarily of District residents, were congratulated by Mayor Adrian Fenty for their hard work and speedy progress. Construction of the Ballpark has made extensive efforts to generate greater participation by local, small, disadvantaged businesses, and the local labor force.
Mayor Fenty exclaimed his appreciation for the hundreds of union workers during a lunch break speech. The Mayor’s speech was short and to the point making reference to the hard work accomplished by the local union labor. “It’s all you who do the hard work. We have the best team in the country working on this, and I know we’re going to get it done,â€? said Mayor Fenty. The Mayor’s speech was followed by cheers and applause from the workers.
This was the Mayor’s first visit to the stadium, which has been under construction for only13 of the 26 month schedule time line. While on the tour, the Mayor was able to see that the structural steel, pre-cast, and cast in place concrete is practically finished. The installation of over 40,000 seats is just getting started, and the mockups for the concession stands and suites are well under way. Mayor Fenty also received a Washington Nationals Major League Baseball jacket with a rendering of the stadium and “Ballpark Construction Team stitched on the back.
Mayor Fenty’s trip to the ballpark was well appreciated and another encouraging driving force to the hundreds of workers building the future for Washington D. C.
